NOTICE OF AMENDMENT CHANGE 12/26/2016

Proposed Amendment to the
Carl Harrison High School PTSA Bylaws

Harrison High School PTSA will be voting at the Thursday, January 26, 2017 PTSA Meeting/Open House to amend Article V: Membership Dues; Section 7 by striking out $6 and inserting $10.

Currently reads:

Each member of this local PTA/PTSA shall pay annual dues of $6.00 to said association.  the amount of such annual dues shall include the portion payable to the Georgia PTA and the portion payable to the National PTA.

If amended, will read:

Each member of this local PTA/PTSA shall pay annual dues of $10.00 to said association.  (Proviso – effective 2017-18 school year).  The amount of such annual dues shall include the portion payable to the Georgia PTA and the portion payable to the National PTA.

Rationale:

The proposed dues increase from $6.00 to $10.00 is necessary to cover the reduction in income due to Hoya fund donations being eliminated after 2017.

NEWS FROM GEORGIA PTSA

Governor Deal delivered his 2017 State of the State Address from the House floor today. The Senators were escorted over to join the House of Representatives to witness the occasion. Highlights from Governor Deal's address are below.

Deal announced a 2% raise for public school teachers, built into their pay scale.

He announced there are 153 chronically failing schools across Georgia. There were 127 two years ago.  He also stated 89,000 students are affected which is higher than last year's 68,000 students.

After his speech, Deal somewhat validated the rumors of Voucher Legislation by stating he's considering a measure to allow students to transfer out of chronically failing schools.

"It should be abundantly clear to everyone, including those in the education community who so staunchly support the status quo that this is unacceptable," Deal proclaimed.

Deal said he will ask state lawmakers to expand mental health coverage for children younger than four in the state's Medicaid and PeachCare programs. He would also budget 19 percent raises for caseworkers in the state Department of Family and Children Services,
